School Safety Patrol (S.S.P.)
The School Safety Patrol was founded in 1935 by the San Diego Police Department in response to the high number of accidents involving children traveling to and from school.
The members of our safety patrol are all fifth grade students who are selected on the basis of their academic performance, citizenship, and maturity. Students are not required to be academically high achieving, however, they must demonstrate the willingness to take responsibility for their commitment to the patrol if asked to participate in the program.
The SDPD provides incentives for all School Safety Patrol members by scheduling monthly outings which are either provided at no cost or greatly reduced prices to the student. In December, the students are treated to a holiday party which features games, prizes, and sports personalities. During the summer recess, graduating members of the Patrol are also treated to a four-day camp at Palomar Mountain School Camp at no cost.
We are extremely proud of our award-winning Zamorano School Safety Patrol. Each member of the squad has proven to be a positive role model for other students. Our Safety Patrol has been the recepient of the "San Diego Best Safety Patrol Award" for multiple years.

ASB/Student Council
Students will learn leadership skills and participate with other student leaders to help make key decisions and create exciting programs which help to build a warm and academically supportive learning environment. Fifth grade students run for a variety of offices at the beginning of the school year including the positions of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. All students in grades 3-5 vote for the candidate of their choice. The ASB meets once a month with Ms. Gottwig in Room 44.
Music
Fourth and fifth grade students at Zamorano have the opportunity to participate in our instrumental and strings music program. Zamorano's instrumental music program is one of the best in the District. The beginning Strings program usually maintains a student enrollment of over one hundred students. Students are able to participate in the instrumental loan program if they are unable to afford an instrument to use. Participating students receive instruction twice a week for one hour each class period with credentialed music teachers. Musical concerts are also held throughout the school year for all parents and family members to attend.
