Student Council
The Valencia Park Student Council provides an opportunity for upper grade students to demonstrate their leadership skills and to pursue their interests and talents. Students attend frequent meetings where they develop their organizational skills and their public speaking abilities. In addition to fulfilling the duties tied to their position on the Council, students participate in a variety of projects such as leading the Pledge of Allegience at assemblies, working at school events, and organizing Spirit Week. All of the offices are open to fifth graders, with a few positions open to fourth graders as well.
School Safety Patrol (S.S.P.)
The Safety Patrol Program promotes the safe crossing of elementary students to and from school and provides classroom education to maximize student safety at all times. Coordinated by the San Diego Police Department's Juvenile Services Division, Juvenile Services Team Officers select, train, and supervise fifth- and sixth-grade students to help children and adults cross safely at key intersections. Participating students learn the value of responsibility and are rewarded for their work through promotions or weekend activities. Learn more
After School Theatre Production
Every student, Kindergarten through fifth grade, is given the opportunity to audition for the after school production. Students are selected based on their audition piece. The things considered are:
• Expression
• Action
• Projection
• Preparedness
• Over all presentation
Generally from 50 to 80 students are involved in cast and crew.
Through the years the after school productions have gained a popular reputation for offering the community quality theatre entertainment.
Dance Production
Every year Valencia Park students are provided numerous opportunities to participate in dance performances. Dance students may also choose to participate in The Valencia Park Dance Troupe which performs in a variety of off campus locations. These performance experiences help to develop dance skills, self confidence, responsibility, promote team work, and spark a new excitement for the art of dance.
Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts
