The school has no way of providing for children who are ill except to contact the parent or emergency contact and request they be picked up and taken home. For this reason, it is critical that the school have current parent/guardian contact informationon file.
Please notify the school office if your child is staying home due to illness.
Medications
All medications, including aspirin, Tylenol, cough/cold medicines, etc., must be left in the office.
The district procedure states any student who is required to take medication during the school day, prescribed by a physician, and may be assisted by the school nurse if written statements are received by the parent and the physician.
Students on prescribed short-term medication (10 days or less) may receive it at school if the medication is in a container with accurate prescription information on the label and accompanied with a note from the parent explaining the name of the medication, dosage, times it needs to be given, and the purpose of the medication.
For medication that needs to be given longer than 10 days, a Physician’s Recommendation for Medication form must be completed and signed by both physician and parent. Medication needs to come in a container with appropriate prescription label from the pharmacy.
Remind your child to come to the nurse’s office to take medication. The school offcials may remind the student to take the medication but is not responsible for the student’s failure to do so. Please call the school nurse if you have questions.
Student Insurance
SDUSD does not carry medical or dental insurance for students injured on school grounds, while under school jurisdiction, or while participating in school district activities. However, the district does provide access to optional accident insurance. Student insurance booklets are available in the office upon parent request.
