There are many opportunities for parents, families and community members to get involved in the education process and help students succeed.
Research indicates that the most accurate indicator of a student's academic success in school isn't tied to family income or social status, but the extent to which a family:
- Creates a home environment that encourages learning.
- Sets high but realistic achievement and career expectations.
- Is involved in the child's education and in the community.
In addition, when parents are actively involved with a child's education, the student is more likely to have higher grades, greater self esteem and to be socially well adjusted.
Please use the links in the left navigation area to learn more about involvement opportunities through fundraising, committees, tutoring, partnerships, special events or general assistance.
For additional information about how you can be more involved, visit the district's Getting Involved page.
Parent Coffees
Once a month, a Parent Coffee is scheduled in order to give Chesterton parents an opportunity to meet with the Principal on an informal basis. Issues that address school and students' needs are discussed. The coffees are normally held at 8:30 a.m. immediately following the Student Recognition Assemblies. Flyers and reminders will be sent home with your students when the coffees have been scheduled.
Breakfast Club
On Tuesday morning from 8:00-10:00 a.m. each week, parents participate in our Breakfast Club. We meet in the staff lounge where parents work on various projects to help teachers. These projects may consist of collating math pages, cutting and pasting classroom materials, book binding, etc. This is also an opportunity for parent volunteers to socialize and meet new friends.
