There are many opportunities for parents, families and community members to get involved in the education process and help students succeed.
Research indicates that the most accurate indicator of a student's academic success in school isn't tied to family income or social status, but the extent to which a family:
- Creates a home environment that encourages learning.
- Sets high but realistic achievement and career expectations.
- Is involved in the child's education and in the community.
In addition, when parents are actively involved with a child's education, the student is more likely to have higher grades, greater self esteem and to be socially well adjusted.
Please use the links in the left navigation area to learn more about involvement opportunities through fundraising, committees, tutoring, partnerships, special events or general assistance.
For additional information about how you can be more involved, visit the district's Getting Involved page.
Opportunities for Parent Involvement
Parents have many opportunities to be involved at their children’s school site (for example, governance committees, special events, fundraising events, parent organizations, and in classrooms) and at the district level (for example, district councils/committees, Parent University, and special events). We also encourage parents to support their children at home by making their expectations about school clear and creating a positive homework and learning environment.
We at Cabrillo Elementary are committed to obtaining community resources for our school and invite all constituencies to assist us in the education of our students. Cabrillo's parents volunteer as readers and tutors, and they assist teachers in the classroom and on field trips. They serve on various committees, including the School Site Council and Parent Teacher Association.
If you would like to get involved, please contact Jaime Saylor, PTA president, at (619) 223-7154.
