The new Birney Library has been open since 2003. What a pleasure to have a permanent building at last.
We do not ask our parents to fill out permission slips. All children become members as soon as they are enrolled. All that we ask is for parents to share in the responsibility for damaged or lost books. If you do not wish to have your child check out, simply send us a note stating so.
Kinders will start checking out in January. We like to give them the opportunity to aquaint themselves with the library and the school at large. All parents are welcome to check out anytime.
Children visit once a week for check out and or storytime. Teachers may bring them other times to do research. And grades 1-5 can come in during afternoon recess for stories, game, readers theatre, puzzles etc.
During the course of the year we will have 2 book fairs, sponsor the RIF program as well as Book in the Hand and our end of the year party for some deserving students. Reading is Fundamental targets a different group each year. Students are allowed to select 3 free
books a year. Book in the Hand gives a free book to students not participating in RIF.
We are always looking for volunteers or just stop by and check us out.
