PTA was founded in 1897 during a time when children worked in factories, mines and in the streets. 

 

Co-founder Alice McLellan Birney helped drive the program nationwide with the philosophy:

PTA plans Birney's Annual Rummage Sale

On May 30, our PTA will host another wonderful event: Birney’s Annual Rummage Sale and Pancake Breakfast!  Families, crafters, and artists seeking to declutter your lives?  Clear out your closets, garages, and junk drawers, set up your spot at Birney on May 30, and bring home some clean cash. Or you can donate your treasures to be sold on campus by the PTA. This community-wide annual event is a great success, thanks to our wonderful Birney PTA, who provide a delicious pancake breakfast, ongoing refreshments, and space for 50 vendors to display their items for sale.
