Student Council
Students learn leadership skills and provide a student's perspective to help in making decisions. Student Council is an elected body - students choose to run in the election, campaign through posters and speeches, and are voted in to office. Coach Lord and Emily Pannel, District Counselor, share joint responsibility for the supervision of student council.
Peace Patrol
The Peace Patrol promotes collaborative problem-solving and healthy anger management on the playground during student playtime. Peace Patrol officers are trained by professionals yearly. The group is supervised by Emily Pannel, District Counselor.
Catch a Rising Star
For several years,Alice Birney Elementary, an International Studies Magnet School, has been recognized as a 'rising star' among SDUSD schools. Thanks to Trustee Mr. John De Beck, our upper grade students have received several field trips a year to recognize and motivate them to strive for even more success. Teachers and staff recognize students who are improving attendance, or making an extra effort to do well, by sending them to special venues such as Sea World, the San Diego Zoo, the Birch Aquarium, and so on.
