Properly, we should read for power. Man reading should be man intensely alive. The book should be a ball of light in one's hand.

Balboa Elementary
Welcome to Balboa Elementary School. At our school, we strive for excellence in both teaching and learning. Balboa students are part of a community in which diversity is celebrated and responsible citizenship is nurtured. Students, staff, and parents focus on the development of essential skills in reading, writing, thinking, listening, speaking, computing, and problem solving. Biliteracy classes seek to develop and extend primary language skills, while building a solid foundation in English. Classroom teachers design rigorous instruction that reflects grade-level standards and is responsive to individual student needs. A variety of programs support the needs of our community. Six preschool classes, taught in both English and Spanish, prepare three- and four-year-olds for a successful kindergarten experience. Our “6 to 6” (Primetime) Extended School Day Program provides many students with tutorial support and recreational opportunities before and after school. Adults in the community attend English as a second language, computer, and parenting classes at Balboa. Although proud of the hard work that has brought Balboa to this point, staff is committed to improving instructional practice so that all students move on to successful school experiences and a lifetime of powerful learning.
